This year’s national tasting project (NTP) subject is Wines of Austria and Hungary ~ “A Well Kept Secret”. We haven’t spent any time tasting the wines from this region, so this will be a great chance to experience some of them.

The NTP is a wine education and tasting opportunity for AWS Chapters across the US. Each year the NTP committee chooses a theme and selects several widely available wines that show different styles within the theme. Chapters hold tastings to sample the wines and then see how their ratings compare to other AWS chapters.

Our meeting will include the history, regions, wine making and other tidbits about Austria and Hungary. Also, we’ll have a quick refresher about how to score wines using the 20 point scale and filling out the AWS wine evaluation form.

We will be tasting both white and red wine. The tasting will be all-blind and we’ll record scores before the unveiling. We’ll get the national results of the NTP in November. The person that scores closest to the national average for each wine will be awarded with a gift.

The cost will be approximately $20 per person depending on attendance.

Please bring an appetizer to share. Here are some Austrian and Hungarian appetizer recipe links to help get you inspired:
